Doug has been making pots for 23 years, particularly country pots. Although he has experimented with many different approaches to the ceramic process: none excites him as much as the effects he achieves using local clays with traditional slips and colours, fired using a wood fired kiln in his studio deep in the Devon countryside His inspiration comes from the array of breathtaking colours in the Devon autumn as the green of ferns and leaves become an infinite tonal range of fiery brown and yellow- the countryside becomes an intrinsic element within the fabric of Doug's work.
