Claire Western
Painter
Claire’s increasingly sought-after paintings represent deep emotional responses to the land and seascapes of the Southwest. She works from rapid drawings made outside and develops her subject back in the studio by using all the expressionist possibilities of unusual combinations of surface and pigment.
She works on a ground of gesso, building layers of paint, paper, sand, metal leaf, glazes and pastel, often scraping back and drawing into the surfaces.
Claire's larger pieces are also on show at the Hartnoll in
Bolham.
