Part of Exhibition ‘Common Ground’ July 15th 2014
Rachel graduated from Maidstone College of Art with a degree in Fine Art Painting although whilst there she developed a strong interest in textiles and it is for this work she has become known. She lived in France for eight years and in 2001 she moved to North Devon coast. Here, as well as collecting fabric and samples for her intricate embroideries, her studio started to fill with driftwood and found seashore items. Her artwork now includes colourful driftwood forms. Rachel’s influences come from the dramatic North Devon coastal scenes and she also has spent time in the Exe Valley and the Grand Western Canal. ‘The sea and natural world are my inspiration with a dash of humour thrown in for good measure’.
