NIC HARRISON
Ceramics
Nic moved to Cornwall with his wife Jackie in 1975, following his studies
in Studio Pottery he was the last student to be part of the Leach Pottery
production team in St Ives. He had the opportunity for making his own
individually designed pots to sell through the showroom and local galleries,
under the leadership of Janet Leach, this was a formative time of his
career. In 1991 he converted stables and set up his own pottery and Jackie’s
weaving studio at Trelowarren, near Helston. Much of Nic’s work
uses local Cornish clay and the glazes used on the surface are traditional
glazes of the Leach Pottery; celadon, a safe green, a black to rust Tenmoku
and Ying Ching, a grey Celadon. Decoration is achieved by applying oxides
of cobalt, iron copper or manganese. This characteristically produces
a soft indefinite line.
