‘Pottery mirrors the qualities I look for in life: creativity, being connected, simplicity, being centred, solitude and joy.
The tableware I create connects me with the joy of cooking. The organic quality of the tableware enhances the life of the food. Food and Clay emanate from the same source.
Working as a potter is similar to working in the kitchen. When baking bread, I use similar tools to those I employ in my studio. As I knead the clay, my hands move in the same way as they do when they touch the dough.
The feelings I get when firing my pots in the kiln reminds me of putting bread in the oven. In both cases, you will find me waiting for the result with a mixture of excitement and impatience.
I create three main designs -MERRY MUSTARD (a rather smooth, bright and joyful tableware) WHITE IMPATIENCE (a rustic, earthy crockery, matt) and GREY COINCIDENCE (a sculptural selection of pots each with a unique texture and artistic appearance, for use and decoration)
I work in my studio in Bradninch, Devon’.
