Teasel House is an umbrella for artwork created by Devon Artist Amanda Watt. Amanda’s interest in art is wide-ranging and she produces work in pastels, watercolours, mixed media and Indian Miniature paintings. 
Most recently an exploration into decoupage under glass has sparked a love for this craft and Lantic Gallery is delighted to be showing a collection of the artist's exquisite glass bowls and hurricane vases.

The art of Decoupage has origins in 12thC China but is probably most associated with 17thC France, when it was used to simulate expensive furniture and from where it gained its name. Decoupage under glass is a variation of the artform, where quality printed papers or vintage prints are carefully cut and applied to the underside of glass to give a luxurious and beautiful glossy appearance. This is followed with multiple layers of paint or metal leaf and then handmade Japanese papers. Additional decoration is applied to the outer surface to relate to those visible on the inside. Archival quality glues are used and the process is painstaking and lengthy with the multiple layers requiring careful application and each followed by a drying time. The outer is finished with 30 coats of quality lacquer for protection and tactility. The result is a beautiful object which can be useful, as well as highly decorative.

No two items are identical unless specifically requested and no shortcuts can be taken in this process, ensuring that each item produced is individual and has been lavished with thought, care and attention.
