‘I studied Fine Art at Birmingham Polytechnic in the 80's. I moved from The Midlands to Devon in 1999. Throughout my life I have always loved making art in its various forms from acrylic and watercolour paintings to printmaking and ceramics. I have exhibited in mixed exhibitions, sold wares at craft fairs and taken on various painting commissions including kitchen and bathroom tiles. Since taking early retirement a few years ago I have been able to spend more time focusing on creating my own designs using the linocut process. These designs convey the special bond we have with our pets and other animals and nature. They are based on special shared moments. Animals have always played a very important part of my life and I wanted to convey this through my art. When producing a print I start with sketches and rework them until the final design is decided and I am happy with it visually. I take some inspiration from Matisse whose art has a decorative element about it. I enjoy working in black and white because I like the bold effect of the print.’
